TibetMy Silk Road tour was splendid!! I saw the famous last brick from the construction of the Jiayuguan Fortress, had a wild six-hour drive to Dunhuang where I visited the Mogao Cave Temples and "sand sledded" down a huge sand dune; took an overnight train to Turpan which seems to be one huge grape orchard, saw the only Mosque in China open to women, walked the streets of an ancient city of the Silk Road, slept in a Uygher Nationality-style room; drove to the capital of Xinjiang, Urumqi, visited the "Beauty of Loulan" (4,000 year old caucasian female mummy), climbed Red Hill to overlook Urumqi, drove into the Tianshan Mountains to visit Heavenly Lake at 6,000 feet above sea level where I romped in the snow and rode a Kazak pony; flew to Kashgar to visit the tomb of the lovely Fragrant Concubine (Xiang Fei) and the Id Kah Mosque, the largest in China - 50,000 people pass through on a holiday, slept in the 1890s Russian consulate. Of course, these are a few highlights, there was a lot more!!! Now I am looking for about 15 people to go with me in 2005 on my "Return to the Silk Road Tour"!!!!
